| Hello, cloud developers! We added some new patterns and tutorials this month about object storage on the cloud, AI and serverless tech, and running deep learning frameworks as a service on Kubernetes. I'd also like to introduce myself as the new editor for developerWorks Cloud Computing. My past developerWorks experience is with hybrid cloud and middleware products, including process automation and API management. John Swanson is moving on to focus specifically on blockchain, and I look forward to working with developers who share knowledge and innovation in areas like serverless technology, platform as a service, and options for cloud object storage. How many of us have experienced a natural disaster either where we or our loved ones live? In 2013, my town of Lyons, Colorado, was hit with devastating flooding. Nearly five years have passed since that disaster, but I still think about the various phases of evacuation, displacement, rebuilding, long-term recovery, and ways the town wants to be more resilient for future events -- especially when I see other communities struggle after disasters, whether in Puerto Rico, Texas, Nepal, South Carolina, India, the Gulf Coast, Mexico, Japan, Oklahoma. I'm excited to be working with a team that is encouraging developers to commit to making things better with Call for Code: How 22M Developers Take on Disaster Preparedness - Planning for the Worst, Coding for the Best. What's inspiring about the Call for Code is that all of us have the potential to be users. User experience is crucial to software design and development, and creating a solution gives you the opportunity to design it how you would like you, your family, and your broader community to use it. See something you like in this month's newsletter? Spread the word with the "Forward to a friend" link in the lower right. Got a question or comment? You can reach us through the feedback form. Thanks for participating in the cloud developer community! Amy Reinholds - Managing Editor, IBM developerWorks Cloud Computing | |
