RWD Weekly #302 — A day early for a happy Easter break!

Everyday Needs across four viewports
Hello everyone and welcome to an early version of the RWD Weekly Newsletter due to the long Easter Weekend.

The past few weeks I've been having fun working on a different medium with Smashing Magazine to produce these conference notebooks. Whenever I get a chance to work 'offline', it brings new ideas on how I might deal with an online problem in a slightly different way, or approach it from a different angle. If you ever get the chance to work on something outside of your day job I encourage you to grab the change with both hands and see where it leads you.

Off to the links.

On Paid Newsletters

An interesting take on the growing craze of creating newsletters. What do you think? Would you rather
  1. Pay weekly to receive a paid-for only newsletter?
  2. Pay weekly to receive a free newsletter, but you're offering support?
  3. Receive a free newsletter, but have sponsors within the content?
Don't worry though, RWD Weekly will continue to be free!

Solar System in CSS

Thanks to Chris for pointing this out to me, this interactive overview of the Solar System is built entirely with CSS and HTML, no JS required. This is a great example of what is possible with CSS alone, however in production I would certainly pose the question of whether the experience requires the same level of interactivity without any JS.  I'm super impressed how much could be done.

That's all from me this week. If you've read something interesting, or even better yet if you've written about something you've done please hit reply and share the love/knowledge/link. Happy Easter!

Cheers,

Justin.
