A little intro to the new digs

Hello, hi, welcome, good to see you! Thank you for joining us. After a few false starts, we now have a true start, with this the first newsletter sent out from our new home at Substack! I'm really glad we've reached this point. Substack is an exciting company, and it's great to be getting in on the groundfloor - in the beta phase, really. Some housekeeping: Take your shoes off, these carpets were only laid the other day! Versioning now exists as a paid subscription on the Substack platform. The special launch price is US $5 per month, or an annual subscription for $50. Once you purchase a subscription under these special prices, they'll renew at that rate as long as you're still subscribed. This deal runs until March 5 and the price returns to the standard rate of $7/month or $70/year. If you sign up as a paid member, you'll get the daily newsletter ("update" is prob a better term, since it's also viewable on the site) and other subscriber updates sent out regularly (focused, canonical updates on popular subjects ("a complete, updated guide to React", stuff like that); interviews; focused round-ups). That's just the stuff we've decided on so far - there will be more to come! (What do you want?) If you sign up to receive free updates, you'll get a weekly update - that I'm planning on making very awesome - plus periodic free updates. BUT you're an OG subscriber, you've been with us for a long time and your support has helped build the newlsetter into something awesome. From now until March 5, you've got full access. You'll get the daily emails as normal, and in those emails you can click "View on Browser" to read the content on the site. Neither platform - email or online - will be "better", it'll just come down to what you prefer*. Once March 5 rolls around, if you haven't purchased a membership, you'll automatically move to the free level, and begin to receive the free, weekly emails and other free stuff. My entire job now is to make sure I'm producing something worthwhile. As hinted at earlier, I'll be asking for your input on what you want to see from Versioning - both content and format - so I'll be sending something out to you to start that process this week. That's all for now, you'll get the latest newsletter as normal today, sent out a little later on. I'll keep in touch with any questions or ideas, and we'll go from there! They'll come to your inbox, and you can click through to see them on the site, but this is just a weird quirk as a result of our demanding (asking nicely) to get you hooked up! Check out some of other Substack publications while you're there, by the way!
